Position Title: Elementary School Teacher

Position Overview

We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic elementary school teacher to teach elementary school students. This individual will provide spiritual guidance, implement engaging programs, and support students in developing and deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ. Position begins August 1, 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a spiritual role model.
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Foster a trustworthy relationship with students and cultivate a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Teach Bible study sessions during weekly Friday evening gatherings.
  • Participate in weekly Sunday worship services for youth and elementary school students. Teach Sunday school classes.
  • Participate in church events on special occasions (e.g. gospel gatherings, Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations) as needed.
  • Assist the Youth Pastor in training adult volunteers to support the youth and children’s ministries.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents.
  • Work closely with youth pastor in youth and children ministries and actively participate in church life.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Calling: A clear sense of  being called to serve the Lord.
  • Have a clear assurance of having received God’s grace and salvation.
  • Have a reasonable understanding of the Bible.
  • Love children and is genuinely interested in teaching children grow spiritually.
  • Alignment with Church Doctrine as specified in the Declaration of Faith of the church (see Article 4 of the Bylaws of OCCC).
  • Language skills: English (Primary); some exposure to Chinese language and culture is desirable but not required.
  • Experience and skills: experience in teaching elementary students’ Bible studies; ability to use age-appropriate teaching methods (e.g. crafting, game, music/songs, etc.) to engage students in active learning; ability to connect with children.
  • Educational background:  Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Background Check: Ability to pass background check.

 

Compensation and Benefit:

Expected work hours will be on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings, 6 – 8 hours weekly. Hourly rate $22 – $27 depending on experience and qualifications.

About our church:

Olympia Chinese Christian Church is a non-denominational, multi-generational, family orientated congregation that conducts services in Mandarin Chinese and English.  We currently serve approximately 10-15 youth, with the elementary class comprising about 15 – 20 students, taught separately. Additionally, we have some cross-culture families in which spouses are native English speakers.
